A gantry crane system is a bridge overhead crane variation in which two support legs are installed under the main beam and run directly on the ground track. Gantry cranes are available in a variety of styles and designs to meet a variety of lifting needs.

There are three types of gantry cranes based on their gantry frame structure: full gantry cranes, semi gantry cranes, and cantilever gantry cranes. They are classified as single beam gantry cranes or double beam gantry cranes based on the main beam structure.
